According to Ayurveda, the living body is composed of five basic elemental substances named as Aakasha , Vayu, Agni, Jala and Prithivi. These five physical elements constitute the three essential components of the living body which are termed as TRIDOSAS viz. VATA, PITTA and KAPHA. The equilibrium state of these Doshas is a state of Health in the Holistic manner i.e. physical, mental, spiritual wellbeing. Vyadhi or disease is the state in which body or mind are subjected to pain and misery. There may be a variety of causative factors of a disease but the actual intrinsic factors which get vitiated are three Doshas i.e. VATA, PITTA and KAPHA. Imbalance state of these Doshas leading to vitiation of other constituents of body resulting in the precipitation of a disease.
While treating a disease on Ayurvedic principles it involves a number of factors. A critical and comprehensive consideration of factors like - Dosha, Dushya, Dhatu, Mala, Desha, Bala, Kala, Agni, Prakriti, Vaya, Satva, Satmya, Ahara, Panchamahabhoota, Vyadhi, Kriyakala and the therapy to be employed, is an essential part of the Ayurvedic Management of the disease.
