Measures for prevention and control of Dengue fever

Some Facts on Transmission of Dengue fever

  • Aedes mosquito breeds in Fresh and Clean water only
  • It does not breed in Sewer, Polluted drains/Dhalaos etc.
  • It lives indoor in the corners of the rooms, under the furniture
  • It bites during day time only
  • It bites 3-5 persons to satisfy its Blood meal needs
  • It takes 8-10 days for development of its life cycle from egg to adult, that is why weekly action is recommended to break the life cycle

Preventive Measures

At domestic & Peri-domestic/institutional level

  • Water in Desert Coolers should be drained out immediately and coolers if used will be used without water.
  • All Overhead and other water storage tanks at residential area/work place should be kept properly covered with lid and overflow pipe/air vent are covered with wire mesh. 
  • Collection of stagnant water should not be allowed inside or around their premises and if the same does take place a little quantity of petrol/ diesel must be put in such stagnant waste water collection.
  • There should be no collection of Unused/broken bottles, plastic cups, pots and tyres etc in residential area/work place.
  • Ensure there is no waste material that is capable of holding water is lying in the premises/roof top etc. Discard it immediately.
  • Keep empty utensils, buckets and pots upside down to avoid collection of water.
  • Change the water in bird pot, indoor plants like Fengsui/Money Plant every day.
  • If an ornamental Pond/Fountain/Water Fall is being maintained in the premises, Zonal Municipal Health Authorities may be requested to introduce Gambusia- Larvivorous fish (small fish that eat up the larvae of mosquito) in these water bodies.

Measures to Prevent Mosquito Bites

  • Wire mesh is fixed in all the doors and windows.
  • Wear full sleeve clothes and pants etc. to prevent mosquito bites.
  • Apply mosquito repellent lotion/cream to avoid mosquito bite.
